Circles: Small Group Ministry

Because whenever two or three gather in God's Name, Jesus shows up!

Circle Groups

Circles is the name we use for our non-worship groups that meet regularly. NOOMA, Transformed, Theology-on-tap, Word, PHH, Art Club and our Eaters all qualify as Circles. Each group looks a little different in size, meeting place, and the people who participate, but all of them emphasize prayer, community and service to one another in Christ’s name. Feel free to choose just one Circle or explore them all!

Fall 2011 Circles

Transformed Theological Seminar

Every Thursday at 7 p.m.

Being a Christian doesn’t mean checking your mind at the door! Transformed is a theological seminar that engages our faith with all our hearts and minds. Because all truth is God’s truth. Transformed is part Bible study, part doughnut-eating club, part conversation group, and part armchair academics convention. Topics vary from semester to semester and draw on everything from exploring Tibetan Buddhism to the Historical Jesus to Queer Theology.

NOOMA

Every Monday at 7 p.m.

Come pneuma* with us! Watch and discuss a short film from the NOOMA series, featuring Rob Bell. NOOMA explores our world from a prespective of Jesus and invites us to search, question, and then join the discussion. *Pneuma is the Greek word for ‘wind,’ ‘spirit,’ or ‘breath’. Yes we know it’s a noun, but you can ‘Google,’ ‘Twitter,’ and ‘Facebook,’ so why not ‘pneuma’?

Come hang out with those of us cool enough to have a meal plan! Food, conversation, good times.

Theology-on-Tap

Meets about once a month on Tuesdays

Love God? Enjoy Beer? Get excited because Theology -on-Tap is the program for you. Go in-depth with our theory and theology discussion group, led in conversation by Dr. Mark Hulsether and Dr. Misty Anderson. See you at Downtown Grill and Brewery!

For more information contact Greg Stafford at grstafford@ymail.com or Jeremy Russell at Jrusse49@mail.tennessee.edu

Word

Every Tuesday at 7 p.m.

This group of students engages in scripture to redeem stereotypes and presuppositions that can be road blocks when reading the Bible. Word is a place for people who don’t know Genesis from Revelations and those who are regular Bart Erhman’s (famous new testament scholar). We’ll start out by having a conversation about how scripture can relate to our lives, even when not taking it literally. Word will meet in Hodges when there is no Theology-on-Tap. Wait right outside Starbucks and then we’ll all go find a study room or cozy corner together.
